It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Robbie Joe Overstreet, 91, on December 30, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas. Robbie was born on February 12, 1933, to D.F. and Mary (Wells) Overstreet in Eastland County, Texas. The youngest of ten children, he was born into a large and loving family with seven brothers and two sisters, all of whom preceded him in death.
Despite not finishing high school due to responsibilities helping his father, Robbie later earned his GED and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his service, he pursued further education, earning an associate degree from Ranger College.
On September 13, 1953, Robbie married the love of his life, Janice Patton, in Olden, Texas. Their union brought many joyful years together until Janice’s passing in October of 2013. Robbie was a dedicated and hardworking provider, spending many years in the oil field industry to care for his beloved family.
In his later years, Robbie transitioned into a career in security. He worked as an armored truck driver and later became a familiar and friendly presence on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University, where he was cherished for his warmth and dedication.
Robbie leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his daughters, Debby Chote of Fort Worth, TX, and Kathy Cox and her husband, Todd, of Georgetown, TX; his grandchildren, Megan Lima and her husband, Neil, of Fort Worth, TX, Shelby Miles and her husband, Keith, of Fort Worth, TX, Amy Johnston of Carlsbad, NM, and Marcus Miles and his wife, Amy, of Carlsbad, NM, Bret Cox and his wife, Christena, of Georgetown, TX, Cody Cox and his wife, Ashley, of Leander, TX; and his great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Kennedy, Cord, Cade, Cullen, Charlotte, Payten, Riley, Brendan, Gage, Presley, and Wesley. Robbie is also fondly remembered by a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
Robbie is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Janice, and his nine siblings.
A funeral service to honor Robbie’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Gorman, TX, with a procession to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM, prior to the service.
Robbie will be remembered as a kind and hardworking man who lived a full life surrounded by the family he adored. His legacy of love, service, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
