Maudelle Taylor Poynor, 94, passed gently and peacefully surrounded by chosen family and friends, Monday, November 15, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Maudie was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, I.N. "Sibe" Poynor in 1996 and her two sons, Terry Don in 1980, and Jerry Wayne in 1990; also, siblings Thelma, Euless, Marjorie, Jolenne, Merle and her baby brother Earl Taylor. She is survived by many loving members of both the Taylor and the Poynor families.
This remarkable Texas woman is also survived by many other "kids" who considered her a second mother. She and her family hosted a semi-annual party at the family farm, Indian Mountain, for almost 20 years. Her kindness, hospitality, and strength were surpassed only by her love. An accomplished artist, quilter, gardener, excellent shot and a fine fisherwoman, she was tough and glamorous. She was no stranger to hard work, hot kitchens, red sand and dance floors. There aren't many Texas women like her these days. Queen Maudie, you will be missed and can never be replaced.
