Johnny Lee ‘Pepaw’ Smith, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at his home in Gorman, Texas. Johnny was born on June 8, 1941, to Willie Smith and Jelma Clark Smith in San Antonio, Texas. Johnny finished high school and spent a while in Joshua, Texas. He worked in the service station business since 1964 and owned two service stations in Joshua, Texas, before moving to Gorman in 1984. Johnny married Ina Lasater Smith on January 3, 1998, in Gorman. He owned and operated Smith’s Service Station in Gorman since 1999, where he was notorious for helping anyone in need or just being a social spot for friends to gather. Johnny was fond of fishing, traveling, and playing dominos. He was a huge sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Ina, children; Brenda Tucker, Nita Auvenshine, Amy Johnston, Kevin Scitern, Jeff Smith, Julie Hazel, and Joann Price. Grandchildren; Vance, Brittney, Emily, Audrey, Ashley, Nathan, Jaime, Kinsey, Jordan, Weldon, Toby, Aleigha, Chase, Kryste, Johnathon, Casey, Ryan, Hollyann, and Kiefer. A very impressive amount of 44 great-grandchildren, as well as four brothers; Floyd, David, Donald, and Leroy.

Johnny is preceded in death by both of his parents, one son, Casey Reed Smith, one daughter, Mary Reed, a brother, Willie Smith, and a sister, Charlene Smith.

Memorials can be made to Gorman Volunteer Fire Department in honor of Johnny.
