John Henry Rice

John Henry Rice, born August 19, 1925, in Plainview, Texas, to Amy O. Avery and Henry F. Rice, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 9:30 PM Friday, June 21, 2019. He married Willo Bell Jones on May 28, 1950. John Served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for Phillips Petroleum from 1950-1964, and he was a truck driver for Miears Butane from 1967 until retirement in 1987. He lived much of his life in the Gorman and Carbon area. He was a Baptist and served as a Deacon. A World War II Veteran, John is survived by Willo, his bride of 69 years; brother Tommy Rice of Gorman, TX and sister Dora Simmons of Cisco, TX; sons James H. (Kay) Rice, Gorman, TX; Jeff (Maudine) Rice, Richland, WA; John Curtis (Barbara) Rice, San Antonio, TX; and daughter Edith Grumbles, Gorman, TX; grandchildren Mandy and Travis Ake, Dublin, TX; James D. Rice, Gorman, TX; Jeffrey and Noelle Rice, Richland, WA; Melanie and Joe Chiaradia, Richland, WA; Marissa Osborne, College Station, TX; Lonnie Grumbles, Pond Creek, OK; John William and Dede Grumbles, McCauley, TX; and Curtis Keith Grumbles, Navasota, TX; and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Claude of Carbon, Sisters Mary Taylor and Louise Taylor of Cisco, Brother Carl Rice of Cisco, and two great grandchildren.
