Joe Bennett, age 89, of Gorman passed away Saturday January 2, 2021 at the Eastland Memorial Hospital. He was born March 18, 1931 to Lawson Arthur Bennett and Ruby Nanny (Reynolds) Bennett. Joe married Laura Maxine Rhyne on December 14, 1951 in Gorman, Tx and together they had two children, Joetta and Lonnie. They were married until she passed away on April 27, 1991. He was the owner and operator of The Gorman Progress for over 40 years until he sold it to his son Lonnie and he took over. Joe loved to watch football and drink coffee with his friends. He also loved to sit out on his daughter's front porch in the rocking chair. Joe was a lifetime resident of Gorman and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with Jacquelyn, Addi, and Chance. Joe was a member of the Methodist Church in Gorman but more recently was attending the Bethel Baptist Church in Eastland with his sister in law Doris. He was also in the Air Force for two years. Joe is survived by one son, Lonnie Eugene Bennett and wife Debra of Lake Leon; one daughter, Joetta Schuman and husband James of Carbon; one brother, Fred Bennett of Cleburne; sister in law, Doris Bennett of Eastland; grandchildren, Jacquelynn Schuman of Eastland, and Chance Zimmerman of Gordon; and one great-grandchild, Addisen Zimmerman of Lake Leon. Also, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine Bennett; and brothers, L.A. Bennett and Bill Bennett. Service Details.
