G. W. Maxfield

G. W. Maxfield, 89, of Gorman, Texas passed away September 27, 2022. He was born on February 22, 1933, in Sena, New Mexico to Roy Lee Maxfield and Frankie Mae (Reece) Maxfield. G. W. married Ann Ratliff on June 30, 1956, in Sudan, TX. Together they had one son, Raymond Mel. He graduated from UCC in 1956 and began his 37-year career in public education. He spent the first 13 years of his coaching career at multiple districts, including Pawnee ISD, Ropes ISD, and Paducah ISD. In 1968, he started his administrative career as Superintendent at Ponder ISD for five years, then moved to Gorman ISD where he spent 20 years before retiring in 1993. The Gorman community and school board honored him by naming the elementary campus in his honor, Maxfield Elementary, and was inducted in the UCC Hall of Honor in 2004. He was a long-standing member of the Lions Club International, 32 Mason, avid volunteer for Gideons International, and a member of the Gorman Baptist Church. G.W. is survived by his son Mel Maxfield and wife Jill of Cleburne; grandchildren Payton Maxfield of Rockwall, Kylie Maxfield of Fort Worth, Max Maxfield of Stephenville, Reece Maxfield of Cleburne; two sisters Juanita Jones of Tulsa, OK, Wilma Fox of Humble, TX; and sister-in-law Yvonne Maxfield of Amherst, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ann, two brothers Leroy and Jimmy Maxfield, and sister Louise Hayes. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in G.W.'s honor to The Gideons International. Service Details.
