Doris “Mom Martin”

Doris W. Huston Martin, who loved to be called “Mom Martin” by all, peacefully departed her loving family on June 2, 2025.

She was born in Tolar, Texas, to Claud and Ruby Huston on January 4, 1928.

Doris was mother to thirteen children and is survived by all of them, H.L. Martin and wife Billie, Janie Valanty and husband Burt, Wilma Holder and husband Donald, Danny Martin, Connie Martin, Niel Martin, Eddie Martin and wife Dawna, Ruby Cottle, Patsy Martin, Tim Martin and wife Gillian, Shirley Martin, Terry Martin and wife Suzie, and Daniel Martin.

Aside from her children, Mom Martin doted on many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

With compassion and devotion, she raised her family in the Gorman/De Leon area.

A loving mother and homemaker Mom Martin welcomed all into her life. She was known for her large vegetable garden, chicken flock, and the “most delicious” scratch biscuits and sausage gravy breakfast. Doris was most proud of her large extended family.

Visitation will be held at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Gorman, Texas from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM on Friday, June 6, 2025. A private family viewing will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. Graveside services will follow immediately after at Gardens of Memories in Desdemona, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bride of Christ Church at 502 Ector St. Gorman, Texas 76454 or Harold’s House at 109 Temple Blvd. Lufkin, Texas 75901 can be made in the name of Doris Martin.
