Don Underwood

Don Underwood, 83, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, in Abilene, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 9, 1941, in Eastland County, Texas, near Carbon, to Henry and Sibyl Ruth (Johnson) Underwood. He graduated from Carbon High School in 1959. On October 10, 1959 he married the love of his life, Dolores Foster in Gorman, Texas, and they shared almost 58 years before her passing on May 15, 2017. Together they raised three sons with strong faith in Jesus Christ in a loving home. Don bravely worked as a law enforcement officer for 36 years balancing a career of caring for and serving people while simultaneously serving the Lord. He was a member of the Church of Christ while he was in the community then was an active member of Austin Avenue Church of Christ when he moved to Brownwood, Texas.

Don is survived by his sons, Lyndall Underwood and his wife, Cassandra of Roscoe, Texas, Greg Underwood and his wife, Dawn Ann of Clifton, Texas, and Daryl Underwood and his wife, Kriste of Fort Worth, Texas. Sisters, Edna Ann Powell of Gorman, Texas, Tammy Foster Straw and husband Eldon of Gorman, and Keith and Debbie Martin of Brownwood. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren as well as numerous other family members.

Don is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Foster Underwood, both of his parents, his father- in-law and mother-in-law, SW ‘Dick’ Foster and Velda Foster Baze, his siblings, Milton Don Underwood and his wife, Verna Dean, Tincy Gorman and her husband, Sam, and Monda Oldham and her husband, Bill, brother-in-laws Kenneth Powell, Mike Foster and Brent Foster.

A funeral service will be held in Don’s honor on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Higginbotham Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at Gorman Cemetery. A visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 P.M.
