David Miller Freeman

David Miller Freeman, 74, passed away on June 4, 2024. He was born on July 28, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to Cecil and Jimmie (Miller) Freeman. After graduating from high school from South Oak Cliff in Dallas, Texas, David went on to further his education and played football on a scholarship for University of Texas at El Paso, he later received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from UT Dallas. Because of his love for numbers, he was good at, and enjoyed filing taxes for people. He also worked at a barbershop part-time, cutting hair. On April 14, 1990, he married the love of his life, Laneta Rodgers at the Church of Christ in Gorman, Texas. David and Laneta were always together. In 1995, after his beloved mother-in-law’s passing, he and his wife moved to Gorman to take over and run the family farm. David was a fighter, he batted Multiple Scelorsis for many years, but it didn’t slow him down much, he still cut plenty of hay and hauled it out west to sell to people in Abilene, Odessa, Lubbock, and even as far as New Mexico. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He loved playing the guitar and entertaining his family through music. He loved riding horses, but one of the greatest things about him was that he loved life and lived to the very fullest, he never met a stranger and was always so kind to everyone he encountered.

David is survived by his wife of 34 years, Laneta Rodgers Freeman of Gorman, Texas, one son, Matthew Miller Freeman of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, one grandson, Carson Miller Freeman of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a brother, Tim Freeman of Kaufman, Texas, a sister, Lynn Freeman Senne of Forney, Texas, his sister-in-law, Dr. Betty Hethington and her husband, Dr. Ken Hethington of Franklin, Tennessee, his cousins by marriage that he adored, Cecilia Hirst of Gorman, Texas, and Charlene Daniel of Arlington, Texas.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Jimmie Freeman, as well as his father-in-law, Ollie Rodgers, and mother-in-law, Vera Self Rodgers.

David’s final resting place will be at the Gorman (Oaklawn) Cemetery in Gorman, Texas.
